EV Protein Skimmers
The EV series are made by the Remora company. There are 6 different sizes to choose from. The EV has an auto waste collector that you can purchase separately . Which the Remora and the Urchin skimmers do not. This unit acts like an auxiliary waste reservoir that will stop the flow of air from the skimmer once it is full. Available in two different sizes 2.5 liter version is 15″ tall, 5″ diameter and the 5.0 liters version is 17″ tall, 6″ diameter.
The EV-120 protein skimmer is the most compact skimmer of the group but don’t be fooled by the small size. It is rated for tanks between 40-120 gallons of water. This skimmer is a sump mount either internal or external. This unit is 18” tall with a footprint of 4-3/4″ x 8-1/2″ (not including pump). There are 3 pumps that they recommend to use they are the Mag Drive 5, Mag Drive 7 and the Eheim 1260. Using a larger pump like the Mag 7 or Eheim 1260 will overdrive the skimmer thus resulting in the maximum performance of this unit. Be aware that you will need to install a valve between the pump and the skimmer to fine-tune the water flow. This skimmer has a 3/4″ hose barb water input and a 1″ gate valve output. It has a 5/8″ collection cup drain and a 3/8″ threaded air inlet. Gate valve exit is 7″ high on this skimmer.
The EV-180 protein skimmer is a very popular size for most. This unit go back to the original release in 1999 and has been modified in the design to make it easier to use and to increase its performance. Since it is rated for tanks from 75-180 gallons of water. This is were most of the home tanks fall in. It is a sump mount skimmer that can be mounted internal or external of the sump. This unit is 20” tall with a footprint of 5.75″ x 9″ (not including pump).
Gate valve exit is 8″ high on this skimmer.
The EV-240 protein skimmers is made for the more serious reef keeping groups. It will be able to handle the larger SPS systems. It is rated for tanks between 100-240 gallons of water. It can be mounted either internal or externally of the sump. This unit is 26” tall with a footprint of 6-3/4″ x 10-3/4″ (not including pump). There are 3 pumps that they recommend to use they are the Mag Drive 12, Mag Drive 18 and the Gen-X Mak 4. Using a larger pump like the Mag Drive 18 or Gen-X Mak 4 will overdrive the skimmer thus resulting in the maximum performance of this unit. Be aware that you will need to install a valve between the pump and the skimmer to fine-tune the water flow. This skimmer has a 1″ hose barb water input and a 1 1/2″ gate valve output. It has a 3/4″ collection cup drain and a 3/8″ threaded air inlet. Gate valve exit is 8 1/2″ high on this skimmer.
The EV-400 protein skimmer is not meant for the smaller aquarium tanks. This is really good if you have a heavily stocked tank. This skimmer is rated for tanks between 150-400 gallons water. Like all the other EV’s this one can either be mounted internal or externally of the sump. This unit is 32” tall with a footprint of 6-3/4″ x 10-3/4″ (not including pump). There are 3 pumps that they recommend to use they are the Pan World 200 PS, Iwaki 70 RLT and the Gen-X Mak 5. Using a larger pump like the Iwaki 70 RLT or Gen-X Mak 5 will overdrive the skimmer thus resulting in the maximum performance of this unit. Be aware that you will need to install a valve between the pump and the skimmer to fine-tune the water flow. This skimmer has a 1″ hose barb water input and a 2″ gate valve output. It has a 3/4″ collection cup drain and a dual 3/8″ threaded air inlets. Gate valve exit is 9″ high on this skimmer.
This is one of the beast that is in the EV line. The EV-1000 protein skimmer is meant for the people with larger aquarium tanks like commercial ones. This is really good if you have a heavily stocked tank. This skimmer is rated for tanks between 350-1,000 gallons water. Like all the other EV’s this one can either be mounted internal or externally of the sump. They used an 8″ cast acrylic and a massive mixing chamber, along with dual air inlets and dual JG fittings. The amount of air and water this skimmer can process is impressive. This unit is 32” tall with a footprint of 9″ x 12″ (not including pump). There are 3 pumps that they recommend to use they are the Pan World 200 PS, Iwaki 70 RLT and the Gen-X Mak 5. The biggest and best of the EV line is the EV-2000 protein skimmer. This is really good if you have a heavily stocked tank. This skimmer is rated for tanks up to 2,000 gallons water. Like all the other EV’s this one can either be mounted internal or externally of the sump. They used an 8″ cast acrylic and a massive mixing chamber, along with dual air inlets and dual JG fittings. The amount of air and water this skimmer can process is impressive. This unit is 40” tall with a footprint of 9″ x 12″ (not including pump). There are 3 pumps that they recommend to use they are the Iwaki 100 RLT, Panworld 250 PS,Gen-X PCX-150 and the Mag Drive 36 . This is the model designed for commercial coral farms, public aquariums and dream home systems that demand the utmost in water quality.
